The perfect fish. Cheap and cheerful and a family favourite. Atlantic cod has a mild clean flavour. It is sweeter than Pacific cod and has large flakes BUT is less firm than haddock.which lends itself toa variety of preparations, including the restaurant favorite, deep-fried fish and chips.Codcan also be lightly coated and pan-fried or oven-roasted to create savory meals minus the calories of deep-fried preparations.

The state of the cod stock in this area is recovering from an all time low in 1993; the implementation of the Harvest Control rule, based on a 20% harvest rate since a Government management plan was adopted in 2009, has seen SSB rise from 120kt to around 360kt at present.
