The perfect fish. Cheap and cheerful and a family favourite. Atlantic cod has a mild clean flavour. It is sweeter than Pacific cod and has large flakes BUT is less firm than haddock which lends itself to a variety of preparations, including the restaurant favourite, deep-fried fish and chips. Cod can also be lightly coated and pan-fried or oven-roasted to create savoury meals minus the calories of deep-fried preparations.
The longline, handline and Danish seine fishery for cod for the Atlantic was certified to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standard as an environmentally responsible fishery in June 2011.
